Schism - definition: division into opposing groups due to a difference in belief or opinion.

Turn the clocks back to the end of the 20th century. Alternative music had received a sudden influx of attention and out from the cracks poured seemingly endless hoards of musically starved teenagers desperate to club their little hearts out. But England's South-East, not yet catching-up with the London scene, struggled to accomodate this new-found market with only the 'Agincourt' and a on/off 'Loft' on offer.

Cue the start of the Millennium - 3 such enthusiasts decide to do something about it and devise a plan which would later give birth to Schism Rock Club (and yes, the name was thought of at a pub... after a few).  Fusing together various styles of music kept the punters guessing, and for a rock venue to have £500,000 worth of lighting shone new light against the stigma of rock music = dark and dirty.

4 years on and Schism is still rocking out - it's nice to see new faces in the crowd, whilst also seeing the same faces that greeted us from day one! Good to see our friends over at 'Hangar18' and 'Oblivion' keeping the local scene as strong as ever too.

We believe that music is constantly changing, and variety is the key to enjoying it - that's why it's a relief to finally witness people letting down the barriers and simply liking what they like. Alternative will always be the alternative - but instead of being black & white, it's just gone a bit multi-coloured, that's all...
